the treasure chest

i keep it in a safe place
stored in little treasure chest
the key has not been made
and i have no where to look
forsaken, forgotten it must
i cannot travel both where i could
though it shouts to me
morning through night

it gets closer
the key maker is on his way
he wants to open and unleash
the gold hidden away

i've tied it and wrapped it tight
buckled down all the loose sides
it is iron sided, steel enforced
safely protected, for today

for when he arrives and finds
what he sees and seeks
all will be changed and lost
for when the light is too strong
and the riches await
we'll have to choose to open the gate

and if that gate shall be broken
or unlocked
tomorrow will leave forever
anything that had lay before it
will sink in comparison
for the truth will set it free

once this day has come
there will be no looking back
thus you turn into a pillar of salt
all that once was will be gone
and a new kingdom shall be sought

who doesn't want to open that chest?
to find gold and riches and light
but you'll see the past no more
and a new future will await.
