life and death, do not fear

*old journal entry found from june 24, 2011

i think i understand what this world is made of and what it may have to offer ... half the time.

it's full of questions and answers, actions and reactions, meaning and meaninglessness.

in due time, it has the power to humble and set straight even the loudest of characters.  for when we are born, we set in motion our death ... and all the ounces in between, of this great weight, is in the living.  birth, living, death.

i just read somewhere, according to some grande studies, that most do not ponder this is their life, unless their life has come to a crossroads where they, indeed, intersect death in some form.  only then, do they gain back their memory of death.

i don't know if i'm an exception, or i'm morbid or something (well, i think not, for i know thyself), but i think of this natural process often.  i try to find meaning as to why i understand this cycle, most days, i think i know.  my conclusion is that we must not shy away from it, because in due time, well at anytime, it's confidently ours for the taking.  to pretend otherwise, i believe, is just foolish and, well, will leave too much shell shock if allowed to burst in all at one time.

my other conclusion is reason, logic, and understanding of natural order in this life, (we'll talk about empathy later).  everything has this order; and everything cycles.  i'm obsessed with change; it's many forms, it's meaning, the questions of why.  and it's been answered:  because.  because that's the way it is.  it works.  what's most fascinating is watching these changes and seeing (right away or a ways down the line) ... the ripple affect.  ever heard of the story that one butterfly's flap of wing can possibly cause great change all the way across the world.  just imagine!

can we control this change?  no.  what?  are we not supposed to let that little butterfly fly?  of course not, fly and run your course, we would advise.  same with us, fly and run your course.  trust in the process, do not fear it.  but i believe, in order not to fear it, we have to face it, accept it, understand it the best way we can.  to pretend it's not there is a grave mistake ... and, well, useless.

i think by the end of it, we will have to change in so many ways.  it's a process of embracing and then, letting go.  a life of learning this is awaiting you, whether you like it or not. a fact in my book.

so, in order to face this, accept this, understand this - we first may have to recognize why we may fear it.  i think a lot of things are tangled and tied into this fear ... but all these things will have to change, take on new form, and be embraced for what they are in order to face the fear ... without the fear.

it's tangled in meaning and purpose and assumptions.  we all live by these and are somewhat uniquely defined by the way we define and live by our own meanings, purpose, and assumptions.  i feel what gets in the way are very simple things, yet they act so profoundly as stumbling blocks in gaining this perspective and, then, we have to learn how to release it properly.  vanity, pride, selfishness, self and/or society induced importance.  these are serious and how you understand them can cause great affliction or great relief.  all of them interwoven precariously in our own perception of ourselves vs. the world.

so, with that said, let's clear something up, now pay attention, for this is very important:

we are all equal.  we are ALL on the same playing field.  always.  every last person that is alive, that came before you and will come after you ... all on the same playing field.  ALL = SAME.

this will shoot your vanity , pride, self importance down, for sure, and with great hope.  don't get me wrong, you are important and were created with a purpose ... but you are not THAT important.  and that's completely OKAY.

okay, yes, you are different and, yes, your life holds value ... but no more than the rest of us.  so, i'm sure some of you reading already get this ... and if so, let this be affirmation.  for the others, please take note and do not let this discourage, but encourage.

this is a very encouraging insight.

now is the time to step outside of yourself and understand you are part of a whole. a PART.

so, this is how it happens.

inspired by this lady on a documentary ....

"so, this is how it happens, quick, painless"

"i imagine my next birthday, again and again and again"
will our mind save us for what is to come?
can i wish myself into the next year, the next decade?

death comes to us in our dreams
casting a white shadow

how is it death will visit you in dreams
before it takes you?
why?

like we've ordered a train ticket
and the conductor is sending us a
friendly reminder?

don't forget about your trip
don't forget you are leaving
leaving, everything

this is depressing.
the reality of NO control
no scheduling
no tomorrow

and you finally understand,
life will go on
without you.

something beautiful.

my home is where my heart
rises and sits,
rests and is secure.
above the waves
and validation,
past the petty
and uncivilized.
it rises.
though those black stripes
try to pin my flesh,
they only shackle
and mark the surface.

make me into something, beautiful.

in the middle

in the middle of the line
the center of the page
i do want to say it
as it is

the secrets,
that aren't so mysterious
as they are sacred, so life enforcing

as the way we need
the sun and the water

the kind that speaks volumes
through the lines on our face,
the wear of our hands ...

(as to why we go and where we sleep.)

grounded we rise

we are one
in two bodies.
grounded, we rise
intertwined with
the divine.
we stay low,
bound by
trifles, hollows,
and holes.
a rat in a race,
we believe we
have somewhere
to go.
but we are whole,
separate from
that
we float, we fly
in a race
to take
stance
on higher ground.

snapdragon dreams

watch out
for the snap dragon;
the facade of images that turn
quickly creating an unreal
reality.
they lock you
in and keep you preoccupied,
guiding you to nowhere,
locked in time.
step away from this mixture
of images that flip
endlessly in front of your eyes.
step away
from all that troubles you,
 lays within the vain realms.
do not trust others to tell you
what time it is, season
it is within your life.
do not listen,
but trust the clock inside.

plastic

thoughts stalk
the "what ifs"
the "maybe nots"
it's like a poverty stricken,
diseased thing that hangs
on the brim. never
going away.
always asking for my
change when i have
none to give.
the pockets are
empty.
no gold lies within there.
i only have plastic now.

no fear

i fear
in the night
that the day will come
when we realize
there is really nothing to fear
and we regret
all the wasteful energy
pursuing such demise.
time will be lost.
blinders that hinder us,
playing cat and mouse.

faux fire

in the cabin we sit
atop a mountain,
cold air and breezes
run through us
presents around a bear
we sit by a faux fire

maybe
maybe we drank too much
coffee is good this morning
play again, we will
laugh and we'll talk too much

but is it ever enough?

learn to lean

dignity in solitude
pressed nose in the book -

to recite for you, i could.

practice makes purpose
forget what you heard.

evaluate and trials,
hard back to bear;
i'll read and rewrite
my own spoken words.

remind me what's real
what stands alone by itself

i'll show you the flipside
to any given "curse".

rouse up and fight the good fight.
errors and blessings
are around every word.

learn to lean,
follow the curves.
bending is good,
if you know what i mean.

making pies

it drives me to become better,
the days, the moments, are ever a lesson.
the humbleness,
i appreciate it for exactly
what it is helping me become.
it never gives in or gives up ....
high and low it looks and it finds me.
life is teaching me, changing me.
i'll take my slice of the pie how it comes,
served up just how i like it ...
or at least how i need it.
i'm making pies, pies.
but, i gotta tell ya ...
i'm a little full.

want vs. need vs. want

i love
that you are beautiful, round, and full
of surprise.
awe, in awe.
ever change, maybe not.
the fence is too high.
i shall never know
what thy neighbor may have.
the grass is green, the sun,
perfection.
movement, your moves seduce.
the voice calls to me
like a lighthouse on the sea.
but i follow it
with my eyes closed.
i can walk to follow it
as easy,
as easy as ... wanting.
alive, it makes me feel
useful
purposeful more than ever.
the eyes are brighter
just by wander.

sorry

your busy by the looks of you,
the thoughts run loose
conjuring ways to use me.
build off me, amused you i did.
only with affection and not neglecting?
promising, places to go
and a person to be.
i've got to go
and dance the night away.
sorry.

finding

the souls of many...
strings pulled at similar differences,
through streams of consciousness
transferred through our tongues;
why some strings pull soft,
some tug tight.
what bond relates and unifies us all...
a longing to reach a journey's end...
or moments slipped by
before the exit.
explain the explanation,
and again in time.
it sleeps slow, winding into affection,
subjection upon execution -
and through amusement
we find our laughs.
we find IT.
and in another time....
we FIND.

roots on earth

g-d at once,
i understand you
in a memory
i saw where you were
a faint tingling of your presence
sits around my body
memories of a road
i traveled to meet you
a large tree, dusty ground
the breeze was always just right
the shadows lay beautifully
somewhere in me
i remember your face
i again can hear your voice
although i cannot

roots on this earth were planted
fertilized and fertilized,
everything was sprouting
energy had begun
we began creating a life
we could not control
a set in motion, too fast to stop
the heat inspired verses produced
we always kept producing
things happened
they changed the meaning
and then lived by it
a spiritual awareness is here with us
we move too fast to notice

a gift

you cannot escape the knowledge
that was given to you early...
the thresholds that have slipped
through the fingertips,
or how many times the eyes have blinked,
the lungs have exhaled,
the words that have been heard
or the words you have spoken
or the visions that you've seen.

no escaping the timeline from decade to decade,
understanding comes now
and understanding comes later,
nor does it come in just the right moment
when you needed it.
it comes with the aftermath of choice,
every decision walked with.

knowledge coming too early
is almost a curse,
when living in flesh.
it binds you and wears you,
for you already know
what's around the bin.

the knowledge, the sight -
sleeps with you at night
gives you first glimpse in morning's
waking moments
walks in your footsteps
sits you with at lunch.
it stays forever and always comes
with help to grasp reality.

fore fathers

sureness in the single stride
of my fore fathers.
wanting to rid of their rituals,
i do not hold them tightly in my own grasp.
to see where their minds have led,
their future in the past.

lend me your guidance.
show me where you have tread,
but say no more of my own steps.
it is anew.
it is a beginning unlike no other.

the past is dead,
but still breathes and walks before us.

the future lingers,
shrinks back in a cave
until at once
it has leaped out and ran
all the way home, the past.

the past sits still,
scares away the coming of age
and yields the future once more
into the days of yesterday.

no glory looking back
and little reward peering ahead.
i sit in the space, this space.
it's all i can comprehend,
for now.

i bare it none

to hold it in my arms
and let it go once received
the tears swell in heart
to give back the gift i
thought was mine to keep
i bare it none
i can't even clentch
my fist
too numb to feel it, to know
the loss doesn't withstand
the importance of letting go.

what comes first?

to the country

or
in the city
shall we live?

hinderances of
slow
or
fast,
convenience or love
shall we pass?

between the dark alleys
or
in the bright sun,
do we want to stay
or
do we want to run?

mind the gap

thoughtless words travel our air,
thinking too much,
we bullshit ourselves into thinking
we breath in god - better yet,

"we are god".
we pity and ponder,
worry and feel sorrow
and in a second,
we have all the answers.
but in a blink of an eye,
no cares will come,
no cares have been...

and the memories,
they but vanish with you.
for you are but a grain of sand
that once landed
and sat in the sun
only to be carried away
by one gust of wind.
eternally you once lived,
but now you never were.
